Monika Fagerholm
Monika Fagerholm is one of the most renowned living authors in the Nordic countries, particularly acclaimed for her experimental, polyvocal prose. Debuting in 1987, Fagerholm had her breakthrough in 1994 with the novel Wonderful Women by the Sea, which was nominated for the Finlandia Prize and the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. Her novel The American Girl received the 2005 August Prize (Sweden’s biggest literary award) and was shortlisted for the Nordic Council Literature Prize (Scandinavia’s largest literary award) and the Runeberg Award. In 2020, her seventh book Who Killed Bambi? (2019) was awarded the Nordic Council Literature Prize and the Swedish Literature Society’s Tollander Prize, and Fagerholm was awarded the Lagerlöf Prize for her authorship. Several of her books have been adapted for cinema/TV. She lives in the countryside near the town Ekenäs on the Gulf of Finland.
