Photo London

From May 21-24, London’s Somerset House hosted the inaugural edition of London’s new international photography fair, Photo London.

 

A response in part to the growing international market for contemporary and vintage photography, Photo London brought together some 60 emerging and established galleries from the likes of Istanbul, Seoul and Tehran, in order to ‘address the full modern scope of the medium.’ While certain fêted and immovable artists such as Yousaf Karsh, Barry Lategan, and Brian Duffy headlined the main exhibition programmes, each gallery was  encouraged to present a number of works by their promising young photographers, allowing Photo London to ‘become a site of exploration and discovery.’

 

The John Kobal Foundation residency award for the most outstanding emerging photographer was presented to Daisuke Yokota, featured in issue 13 of The White Review, for ‘his meticulous approach to photographic experimentation, combined at times with visceral performances’.
