Music & Literature at Hannah Barry Gallery

Please join us on Friday 13 February at Hannah Barry Gallery for an evening of music and performance in association with Music & Literature.

 

The event will feature music from composer and solo bassist Barry Guy and baroque violinist Maya Homburger alongside readings by Adam Thirlwell, Holly Pester and Luke Williams & Natasha Soobramanien. BARRY GUY’s concert works for chamber orchestras, chamber groups and soloists have been widely performed. MAYA HOMBURGER is a baroque violinist and founder of label MAYA recordings. Together they have  given concerts in  major Jazz, New Music and Baroque Music Festivals across Europe.

 

HOLLY PESTER has worked as an archivist, lecturer and practice-based researcher with performances and sound installations featuring in events in Mexico City, dOCUMENTA 13, the Text Festival, and the Serpentine Gallery Poetry Marathon. Her poetry collection, Hoofs, was released with if p then q press in 2011 and her next collection, Folkslop, is due out with Veer Books soon.

 

NATASHA SOOBRAMANIEN & LUKE WILLIAMS are collaborating on a novel, Diego Garcia; the first chapter, ‘Debt’, was published in the latest issue of The White Review. Subsequent installments will appear across different publications for the next year, with the novel to eventually appear in book form. This is a second novel for both: previously they wrote Genie and Paul (Myriad Editions, 2012) and The Echo Chamber (Hamish Hamilton, 2011).]

 

ADAM THIRLWELL was born in London in 1978. He is the author of two novels, Politics and The Escape, and a project with international novels that includes an essay-book, which won a Somerset Maugham Award, and a compendium of translations edited for McSweeney’s. He has twice been selected as one of Granta’s Best of Young British Novelists. His work is translated into 30 languages. His latest novel, Lurid and Cute, was published by Jonathan Cape in January 2015.

 

A short tour will also be provided around the three exhibitions to have recently opened at Hannah Barry Gallery: James Capper’s Tools of the Trade, Rob Sherwood’s The Mercury Room & Oliver Griffin’s Theory in Failure (Sequence one): The Daguerreotype and The Laser Print. How we never learn from photographic history, just repeat it in digital formats.

 

Music & Literature is devoted to publishing excellent new literature on and by underrepresented artists from around the world. Each issue of the magazine assembles an international group of critics and writers in celebration of three featured artists whose work has yet to reach its deserved audience. The event will begin at 7pm prompt at Hannah Barry Gallery, 4 Holly Grove, Peckham. The gallery is on the left after exiting Peckham Rye station.
